Du brauchst das AVR - Mikrocontroller Lehrbuch von Roland Walter und das zugehörige Experimentierboard. Beides bekommst du bei Segor: http://cgi.segor.de/user-cgi-bin/sidestep2.pl?foto=1&Q=rowalt&M=1
Dann brauchst du noch ein paar Bauteile, Mikrocontroller und einen Programmer (=Gerät um das Programm zum µC zu übertragen). Ich mache es mir einfach und verlinke direkt dorthin. Und nein, ich bekomme keine Provision. :-)
